  A very good "spaghetti polar" from the talented director Fernando DiLeo. Luc Merenda isn't the best leading man of the genre but the rest of the cast is first rate, so is the inevitable car chase occurring in the middle of the story. There is also an interesting look at police corruption in Italy - a theme very sensitive at that time there, I guess - delivered by an intelligent script and a main character very well drawn.
  And, of course, there's also a huge amount of violence in it and a very dark conclusion.

EXTRAS and Special Features:

- "Master of the Game" (24:58) sits down with Di Leo (who passed away in 2003) to discuss his filmmaking interests, especially those that led to the creation of "Shoot First, Die Later." A charmingly cantankerous, opinionated man, Di Leo shares his love for noir and his distaste for Italian film critics who were eager to marginalize his work, labeling his crime features as "poliziotteschi" pictures, a term the director despises. With topics swinging from prior screenwriting gigs to masturbation, Di Leo is a hoot, though frustratingly, the conversation doesn't specifically dissect the movie at hand;
- "The Second Round of the Game" (21:20) collects interviews with actor Luc Merenda, assistant director Franc Lo Cascio, and editor Amedeo Giomini, who gladly recall their time working with Di Leo, embracing his personality and moxie. Much like the previous featurette, the conversation doesn't directly tie into "Shoot First, Die Later," instead supplying anecdotes that recall the spirit of the Italian crime genre and the man who some say mastered it;
- The Italian Theatrical Trailer (3:20, HD) and an English dub of the same trailer (3:20, HD) are provided.
