The courageous, young midwife Christine makes a pact with the devil in order to free her village from the brutal terror of the Teutonic Knights. When Satan demands his agreed wage and doesn't get it, he punishes the village with a spider plague. Christine becomes the scapegoat and thus the hunted. Only her sister Maria understands the suffering she endures to defy Satan's command.
